Mistake in a prom....true story

after an interval of 2 months, here i m again to continue my blogging affair.....i guess i had lost touch in blogging be4 this but right after i flipped through my Garudamas ( my annual school magazine), i was again reinvigorated & resuscitated to update my old rusty blog.... zzz however this time, instead of writing sth new, i choose to post 1 of the many creative writings in my Garudamas to share herein, courtesy of my former classmate- Ang Vincent

Mistake

Everyone was in his or her formals with boys well groomed in long sleeved-shirt and slacks while the girls in attactrive, lavish gowns. Every single person there was suavely dressed to kill. As Zack walked down the hallway to the main ballroom in Istana Hotel, he met his friends here and there, chatting. Upon reaching the ballroom, a very noticeable yet simple banner could be seen above the registration counter: ' Joint Prom Night St.John's Institutions and Convent Bukit Nanas- 1989'.

A unique system was made for this prom. For those who did not have partner, they registered on a seperate list. These solitary singles would then be paired according to the registration number, as there were two seperate lists for boys and girls. After registering, Zack went in to the opulently festooned ballroom with magnificient shimmering chandeliers at the middle of the ballroom ceiling. Soon, Tifa arrived. In a black, elegant gown with dangling, glittering, diamond earrings and a sparking diamond necklace complimented by a pair of swanky high heels, she stole the limelight outside the ballroom. Looking chick, she too just like Zack, registered under the 'No Partner' list. Tifa then checked with the person in charge of registration who happened to be her classmate to know who would be her partner, which was supposed to be a surprise until the dinner starts. Anyway, it was Joe.

The majestic function commenced precisely at 7.00pm. As the scrumptious dinner was served, performances were going on and on. Zack's table consisted of him, Tifa, Joe, and a few other friends of theirs. All of them were in their sweet seven teen. Out of the blues, Zack asked to be excused as he said he wanted to answer the nature's call. By the time he came back, the organising committee was about to pair up the singles, as the dance was next in the agenda. Zack took quite a long time in the wash room and when he was asked, he softly replied "I went and did something else after that..." not telling what he had actually done.

"Next up, is our main event for the night," said the emcee. "The dance! But before that, lets get the singles pair up," he added. All the single boys and girls were anticipating this golden moment to know their respective partners for the memorable night.

The emcee announce "our first pair, Zack and Tifa!" both of them stood up. Astounded, they both looked and walked towards each other. "You know what, my partner was supposed to be Joe," said Tifa to Zack. "And mine was supposed to be Sharon, I checked it just now," Zack replied. "So, I think they must have made a mistake. Anyway, shall we?" Zack said. "My plesure," Tifa accepted it gladly.

Thanks to that particular mistake, they danced, ate, talked, strolled and spent their quality time together that night. After the prom, it was approximately 10.30pm. Zack asked Tifa if she would like to come along to the 'after prom party' in his classmate's house with a few other couple that night. She willingly agreed. They got there in Zack new dark blue Proton Wira. That night at the party, they spent their sweet and nostalgic time together all night long. It was too romantic to be true. The stars were shining and they were barbequing under the full moon. When the party ended, they somehow held hands and walked together to Zack's car. Their relationship had just got one step better and that was nothing to be doubted. Zack fetched Tifa home. Before getting down from Zack's car once reached the house, Tifa gave Zack a kiss on his left cheek. "This is the happiest day of my life, Thank you Zack," said the blushing girl. Zack held her hands and said the three magic words " I LOVE YOU, Tifa."

Eventually, they dated, engaged and lastly got married. They even got themselves a couple of children. Whenever they sat on the sofa and looked back at the old photos to recall 'the good old days', Tifa would say, " Zack, you want to know something. I would really like to thank that guy who made the mistake at the prom and led me to you that night." Zack would just look deep into her eyes and smile with a contented heart every time. They live happily ever after.

April 22nd 2009, Zack passed away due to final stage of intestinal cancer. In his will, he said there was a black box containing a note in his safe behind his bed. He specified clearly that Tifa must read the note after his death.

The word in the note was written in a calligraphy font that reads "Sorry Tifa, I had to move on first but there was this incident that I'm really sorry about. Twenty years back in that prom, it was not a mistake. I changed the name in the list so that you would be my partner because I liked you so much then. I know it is my fault and I am very sorry for being so selfish. You may not accept my apology but I sincerely hope that you will forgive me. Love Zack."

Finished reading that note, Tifa did not feel angry. Instead, she just wept and thanked Zack for making the stupid 'mistake' so that they could be together and live such a happy life.

feel sorry for the Blues? not yet....

after a series of bad results including last week 3-0 thrashing by man utd, i bet many chelsea fans would have the thought that this team built under Big Phil isnt good enough to challenge for tis season's BPL title or any other cup competition ...including myself... & a lot of bizzare questions being thrown at Scolari's tactical approach, team's commitment, players' winning mentality...sadly say they ain't good enough to win...

but all these would have changed when chelsea fought back and won narrowly 2-1 at home against stoke city juz few hours ago 2day....in tat game, we saw the fighting spirit from the Blues tat urged themselves to win after falling behind at the quarter of the game....they scored 2 late goals in the space of 5 minutes...belleti with the equalizer n the man-of-the-match frank lampard scored the dramatic winning goal in the last minute of added time....roaring....it was an astonishing left-foot strike from him tat sealed the game for my team...yeah wat a great goal it was...

haha...a bit hyped up after watching the game n there4 i plan to blog about tat in this post...a lot of stuff happening in the BPL, especially the Kaka's transfer saga ( it was reportedly said tat City r willing to put in a £100 million bid for Kaka & offer as much as £500,000 per week for his weekly wage)....crazy stuff...zzz anyway i tink tat the recent few bad results wouldnt let the entire chelsea squad down s well as the fans around the globe.... the win against stoke will mark the winning milestone for my chelsea team...
the downfall of Roman empire? ( roman abravomich-the owner of the club)....no way tat is gona happen....

year 2009

time flies....as usual....it's time to bid farewell to year 2008...& welcome the new year 2009....
in overall, i tink year 2008 wasnt the very best to me but certainly it wasnt the very worst either .....so all i can say is tat i hav a quite decent year... zzz.

however. life still has to go on... time has passed...it is no use to reminisce the good old days ...the great time...how good we were ....but juz alwaz hav to look ahead at wat might happen and be ready to handle it....

at the first day itself.... i finally got the chance to try japanese buffet at jogoya....located in starhill...
at first it was estimated tat there were about 10 of us going for this jogoya buffet..but as it turned out, only 4 of us were there at the designated time...it was such a disappointment.....
but anyway..looking at the brighter side of it, it is a rare occasion tat sees jogoya doing 50% discount promotion on supper for both genders in conjunction with the new year celebration....& there4 we grasp this golden opportunity to treat our stomach a great meal....

it was the finest and most sumptuous feast i ever had... in preparing for tis, i even fasted for the whole day in order to hav a empty stomach ready ....

there were jz plenty of food to mention..... fresh oyster, scallops, mussels, prawns, crabs, squids, fish, chickens, lambs, satay,.......etc etc not forgetting the various kinds of japanese cuisine like sushi, sashimi, tempura, unagi & so on and so forth... however, there were many other dishes i x tried becuz they were all taken by other ppl at the first place and the chefs had to spend some time in preparing them...but then i dun really bother much about tat....I juz eat wat i like... somehow, i x find food like escargot, abalone, temaki, king prawn n some other food which were said to be served inside the restaurant.... anyway, i m pretty satisfied n full with all the food mentioned above...

fresh oyster

emm.... best part of it would be the haagen-dazs ice cream... there were about 12 different flavours served during the buffet.... of cuz, the best would definitely be the chocolate flavour... there were also various types of cakes, cookies, puddings, etc served at the dessert counter...& i personally like tiramisu the most... i even tried the chinese herba a.k.a guai lin gou...it wasnt bad..okay la

duno wat flavour....

zzz.... in short, i m off to a good start in year 2009.... hopefully i can keep tis up till nex week examination days...

a quick snapshot

I hope this could be the year tat i m waiting for... xD

an email

i got this email from 1 of my pals & it had really ignited my interest in words...

Five Important Lessons In Life‏ to Make You Think About the Way We Treat People

1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.

During my second month of college, our professor
gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
and had breezed through the questions until I read
the last one:

'What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?'

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the
cleaning woman several times. She was tall,
dark-haired and in her 50's, but how would I know her name?

I handed in my paper, leaving the last question
blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if
the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

'Absolutely,' said the professor. 'In your careers,
you will meet many people. All are significant. They
deserve your attention and care, even if all you do
is smile and say 'hello.'

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her
name was Dorothy.

2. - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain

One night, at 11:3 0 p.m., an older African American
woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway
trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had
broken down and she desperately needed a ride.
Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.
A young white man stopped to help her, generally
unheard of in those conflict-filled 60s.. The man
took her to safety, helped her get assistance and
put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his
address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a
knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a
giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A
special note was attached..

It read:
'Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway
the other night. The rain drenched not only my
clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along.
Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying
husband's bedside just before he passed away.. God
bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving
others.'

Sincerely, Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those who serve.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less,
a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and
sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him..

'How much is an ice cream sundae?' he asked.

'Fifty cents,' replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled is hand out of his pocket and
studied the coins in it.

'Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?' he inquired.

By now more people were waiting for a table and the
waitress was growing impatient.

'Thirty-five cents,' she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins.

'I'll have the plain ice cream,' he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on
the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice
cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress
came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the
table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish,

were two nickels and five pennies..

You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had
to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a
roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if
anyone would remove the huge rock Some of the
king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by
and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the
King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did
anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of
vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the
peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the
stone to the side of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the
peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed
a purse lying in the road where the boulder had
been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note
from the King indicating that the gold was for the
person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The
peasant learned what many of us never understand!

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts...

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a
hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who
was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her only
chance of recovery appeared to be a blood
transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had
miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies needed to combat the
illness.. The doctor explained the situation to her
little brother, and asked the little boy if he would
be willing to give his blood to his sister.

I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a
deep breath and saying, 'Yes I'll do it if it will
save her.' As the transfusion progressed, he lay in
bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did,
seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his
face grew pale and his smile faded.

He looked up at the doctor and asked with a
trembling voice, 'Will I start to die right away'.

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the
doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his
sister all of his blood in order to save her but he had chosen to save her anyway.

I personally prefer the 3rd lesson...
